Sugar Hill has opened its 9.2-acre Gold Mine Park, which preserves the entrance to what was once one of more than a dozen gold mines in the area while also adding a new leg to the Sugar Hill Greenway. The park is part of a 16.5-mile trail, with Gold Mine Park adding a piece that stretches from the park’s entrance on Level Creek Road to Whitehead Road. With the opening of this leg, Sugar Hill has completed five miles of its greenway trail, constituting the first phase of the trail. The greenway provides an excellent opportunity for the community to explore nature and engage in physical activity.

A man from Duluth  was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering his girlfriend at a restaurant in Marietta. According to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office, Jose Ramon Lemus shot his girlfriend, Janice Ross, in the neck after becoming angry at her for asking about another woman he had been communicating with. He then fled into the woods but was apprehended by police within an hour with the help of a police K-9. Ross died at the scene of the shooting. During the sentencing, the victim's family members spoke about the impact of losing her, with her 14-year-old daughter saying, "I won't ever get my mom back and it hurts."
