STORY 2: theft
Adrian Jamar Daniels, a South Rome man, was arrested on Hardy Avenue for an incident that occurred on August 20, 2020. He allegedly sold a stolen 2019 Max Built trailer worth $5,199 for $1,500 at the West Rome Trading Post. Daniels is facing charges of felony theft by receiving stolen property and felony theft by deception. Daniels is currently being held in the Floyd County jail without bond.
STORY 3: guns
A 17-year-old and five juveniles attempted to break into a hardware store near Shorter Avenue to steal guns but were prevented by the store's security. The suspects caused around $16,000 in damages to the store while trying to break the glass front door and gun counters. Ladarius Cardale Cunningham, living near the hardware store, was arrested and charged with felony smash and grab burglary and criminal damage to property. The rest of the suspects are believed to be juveniles. A similar incident occurred in February when several guns and ammunition were stolen from the store during a break-in.

STORY 4: hydro
Hydro Dynamics, a Rome-based company, has been awarded the 2023 GLOBE award by the Georgia Department of Economic Development for its successful expansion into international markets, including Mexico, South Africa, and Slovenia. The company's ExtractMor technology is utilized for hops extraction in breweries and biogas applications. The technology allows for more efficient extraction of hop flavors, saving brewers money and enhancing flavor profiles. Hydro Dynamics, which has been operating for 30 years, focuses on machines that use "controlled cavitation" in fluid processing. The GLOBE Awards program recognizes local businesses contributing to Georgia's economic growth through global trade.
STORY 5: millage
The Rome City Commissioners approved a 2.3% reduction in the millage rate to offset property tax assessment hikes. However, due to overall property tax assessment increases, most residents will likely see an increase in their property taxes for 2023. The combined millage rate for the city and Rome school system is 26.450, and the rollback rate is 24.674. The reduction equates to a decrease from 27.05 mills to 26.45 mills. Additionally, the commissioners engaged in a contentious hour-long debate over the proposed Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) package, with Commissioner Bill Collins arguing that the city isn't receiving a fair share of the proceeds.
