The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has awarded a significant construction contract worth nearly 25 million dollars to Norcross-based CMES Inc. The contract is for the construction of a long-planned interchange on Interstate 85 at McGinnis Ferry Road in Suwanee. This interchange project, which includes building a bridge and approaches over I-85/SR 403 in Gwinnett County, addresses traffic congestion issues around the Lawrenceville-Suwanee road interchange. GDOT expects that the new interchange will reduce congestion on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, alleviate traffic queuing on northbound I-85's auxiliary lane, and decrease accidents at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and I-85. The project is slated to open in the spring of 2026. Additionally, GDOT announced another contract for installing sharp curve warning signs in several counties.
