STORY 1: South Rome Man Charged With Auto Theft, Reckless Driving

A South Rome man is facing auto theft charges after police say he fled police in a stolen vehicle early Sunday morning, driving on the wrong side of the road and through stop signs while leading police on a high-speed chase, reports state. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Jamarcus Omarion Lackey, 18, of a Wilson Avenue address, is charged with felony auto theft and multiple moving violations including obstruction, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. He remained in jail without bond as of Monday morning.

STORY 2: Calhoun City Council Proclaims National Education Week, Hosts Local Students

During the recent Calhoun City Council meeting, Mayor Jimmy Palmer proclaimed November 19-25 as National Education Week in Calhoun. The meeting also welcomed "Mayor for a Day" participants representing local schools who spent a day learning about city government. High school students from Calhoun, Gordon Central, Sonoraville, and Georgia-Cumberland Academy were recognized as participants in the 2023-24 Youth Leadership Gordon County program, which helps develop leadership skills by teaching students about local and state governments and various organizations across Gordon County. The council approved an intergovernmental agreement for water distribution with Pickens County for 10 years, as well as the surplus of unused vehicles from the Water and Sewer Construction Department. The next council meeting is scheduled for November 13, 2023.

STORY 3: Ringgold Primary Named Title 1 Reward School

Ringgold Primary School has been honored with the Title 1 Reward School designation by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). This recognition is presented to Title 1 schools that have demonstrated significant improvements in student achievement. The achievement showcases the dedicated efforts of the school's teachers, administrators, staff, and students. To earn this designation, schools must have a substantial number of students from low-income families and demonstrate notable improvements in student achievement on state assessments. Ringgold Primary School met all the necessary criteria and is part of the top 5% of Title 1 schools in Georgia, highlighting their remarkable progress in student achievement.
