  1. BoC Convey 8-acre Parcel to Joint Ownership with Paulding Airport Authority:

Paulding Commissioners voted to authorize joint ownership of an 8-acre parcel between Paulding County and Paulding County Airport Authority for the Terminal Area Extension project. The decision was made to comply with an Intergovernmental Agreement requirement that airport property funded by federal money be jointly owned. This ensures smoother operations and prevents property disputes that occurred in the past.  This from the Dallas New Era

  1. Paulding commissioners hold Public Hearings on Proposed FY24 Spending Plan:

The Paulding County Board of Commissioners conducted public hearings on the proposed FY2024 Budget at the Watson Government Complex. The county is growing, serving more citizens, and has added a state court, leading to budget concerns due to inflation, the labor market, population growth, and property value reassessment. Everyone's been talking about teacher shortages about everywhere really, well we reached out to Paulding County School District, and Jay Dillon, public information officer emailed us back with “ we have been fortunate this year in the Paulding County School District not to have experienced a teacher shortage, or really a significant staffing shortage in any area of our operations. At this time we are essentially fully staffed. Our Human Resources team was very effective in ramping up recruiting efforts, and our school board supported increased pay for teachers and bus drivers which made a difference in attracting candidates. He went on to say “The areas where They see higher turnover and are always looking for new hires include bus drivers, and especially bus driver substitutes and bus monitors, as well as paraprofessionals and school nutrition staff. We also currently have two openings for school nurses."

 

 

 

  1. Ossoff

U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff played a leading role in bipartisan efforts to bolster national security and improve the lives of servicemembers, military families, and veterans. The FY '24 National Defense Authorization Act, which he helped pass, includes various measures to upgrade facilities, enhance mental health care access, oversee housing, and provide services for veterans. The bill also includes a 5.2% pay increase for servicemembers. Ossoff emphasized the bipartisan support behind the legislation, aiming to strengthen national defense and enhance military quality of life.….this from the Center Square

 

  1. Scheme

Ronald Bell, an Arizona man, was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for attempting to extort Georgia Tech with a false accusation against former basketball coach Josh Pastner. Bell colluded with a security guard to make the false claim of assault. He demanded money from Georgia Tech to avoid going forward with the accusation. The security guard confessed to making false statements on Bell's behalf. Pastner was cleared of wrongdoing in a Title IX investigation in 2018. Jennifer Pendley, involved in the scheme, will be sentenced later for her role. …..courtesy of the AJC

  1. Ballots

Election integrity groups are pushing Georgia officials to replace electronic voting machines with paper ballots before the 2024 presidential election. Critics claim the current system is vulnerable to hacking. A petition by the Coalition for Good Governance calls for stricter inspections and cybersecurity measures. Secretary of State Raffensperger defends the system's security, but public comments overwhelmingly support the switch to paper ballots for increased election integrity.

Google Street View Driver Crashes In Creek After 100+ MPH Police Chase

A Google Street View driver was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase recently. The driver, Coleman Ferguson, was caught traveling over 100 mph near a school zone IN the Google street view car. He refused to stop, leading the officer on a chase until he crashed into a creek. Ferguson, who claimed to work for Google, was taken to the hospital for evaluation and later charged with a felony count of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.
