It’s safe to say that the Hutcherson family has played a big role in leading the way on the basketball court for Holy Innocents’.

Senior Olivia Hutcherson has been a big part of the success of the Holy Innocents’ girls’ team, while younger brother Devin Hutcherson, a freshman, has played a key role for the Golden Bears’ boys’ squad in his first year of varsity high school basketball.

The Hutcherson siblings stepped up to the forefront even more at the Tampa Bay Invitational holiday tournament in Tampa, Florida, December 28 through December 31 with the best games of their high school careers. Devin Hutcherson led things off as the 6’4” freshman scored 39 points and grabbed 22 rebounds — both career highs — to lead the Holy Innocents’ boys to a 68-66 overtime victory over Wiregrass Ranch of Wesley Chapel, Florida December 29.

Olivia Hutcherson followed up with a big game of her own two days later as the 6-foot senior scored 32 points and grabbed 17 rebounds — again, both career highs — in the Lady Bears’ 75-57 win over Cardinal Mooney of Sarasota, Florida in the third place game of the tournament December 30. In her fourth year on the Holy Innocents’ girls varsity basketball team, Olivia Hutcherson has already secured a place on the college basketball level after committing to Princeton. As for Devin, he still has three more years of high school basketball after this season. But he said that Olivia has helped set a framework for continued success on the basketball court.

The Alliance Theatre will produce the regional premiere of “The Hot Wing King,” a play surrounding Black joy, love and masculinity.

Written by P-Valley creator, Katori Hall, the Alliance’s production of “The Hot Wing King” marks Hall’s first time directing the 2021 Pulitzer Prize-winning play for drama. Kicking off the second half of the Alliance’s 2022-2023 season, “The Hot Wing King” will run on The Coca-Cola Stage at Alliance Theatre from February 10 to March 5.

In “The Hot Wing King,” Cordell is poised to leave this year’s Memphis Hot Wang Festival victorious. Supported by his partner, Dwayne, and his best friends who serve as his fry crew ‘The New Wing Order,’ the group settles in for a fun night of pre-competition prep. However, when a family emergency forces Dwayne’s troubled nephew into the mix, winning the annual competition becomes the least of their worries. Praised by the Pulitzer board as a “deeply felt consideration of Black masculinity and how it is perceived filtered through the experiences of a loving gay couple and their extended family,” “The Hot Wing King” provides a glimpse into deeply personal family struggles that mirror real life. The creative team for “The Hot Wing King” includes award-winning Director and Playwright Katori Hall, Tony-nominated Costume Designer Dede Ayite, Tony-nominated Set Designer Michael Carnahan, Sound Designer Connor Wang, and Lighting Designer Mike Wood.
