Story 1. Fake id

Gwinnett County police are searching for a woman who allegedly used a fake identity to rent a hotel room in Duluth. The incident occurred earlier this month at Studio 6 when the woman presented a fake ID at the check-in counter. A day later, a man staying at the hotel called 911 and informed the police that he was traveling with a man and the woman, who were involved in bank frauds along the eastern seaboard.

The man who called 911 claimed that he did not participate in the fraud but was merely driving the individuals around and receiving payment in methamphetamine. He also informed the police that the man and the woman were homeless.

The fake ID used by the woman belonged to a Colorado man who expressed his desire to prosecute her for identity fraud. The Colorado man was advised by the police to check his bank accounts for any unauthorized access. For more on this story, visit www.gwinnettdailypost.com

STORY 2: 3 teens

Three teenagers were injured in a shooting near a house party in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The incident occurred as the teens were on their way to the party, and they were shot by an unknown individual. The injuries sustained by the two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old were reported as non-life threatening. The police are investigating the incident and have described the shooter as a tall Black male, weighing around 200 pounds, with dreadlocks, and wearing a red hoodie and white T-shirt. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.

Story 3: historian

Ruth Abram, a historian hired by Gwinnett County to compile the history of The Promised Land, has accused Gwinnett County Community Services Director Tina Fleming of downplaying the history of slavery and interfering with her research. Fleming allegedly requested that the term "plantation" be replaced with "farm" when discussing the property's pre-Civil War history, in an attempt to downplay the reality of slavery. Abram criticized Fleming's approach, stating that it would replace terms like "slave" with "servant." Abram also claimed that Fleming prohibited her from involving African-American organizations, community leaders, educators, or politicians in her research. The criticism comes in the wake of the county's abandoned eminent domain effort against the Livsey family, who have owned part of The Promised Land for over a century. Fleming has not responded to the accusations…..we’re back in just a moment

STORY 4: Farms

Brett Coltman, owner of Coltman Farms Racing, made a surprise announcement of a $150,000 charitable donation to the Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett in Lawrenceville. The donation was presented during a special event at the school, where Dirt Late Models driven by David McCoy and Kenny Collins were brought in, and autographs were signed. The donation is the largest ever made to the Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett and will support the educational experience of students and expand programs for more families in the future. The school provides classes for children with special needs, emphasizing their similarities to other children and helping them overcome disabilities. Coltman has been a long-time supporter of the school and previously donated space on race cars. The school expressed gratitude for Coltman's generosity and the lasting impact it will have on students' lives. Read more about this story at gwinnettdailypost.com

Story 5: Buchanan

Buford graduate Jackson Buchanan has performed exceptionally well in the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona. Representing the University of Illinois, Buchanan is currently tied for second place individually after four rounds of stroke play. His impressive performance has contributed to Illinois' advancement to match play for the NCAA title. The team finished tied for second place with Florida at 2 under, with North Carolina taking the lead at 6 under. Buchanan finished stroke play at 6-under-par 274, sharing second place with Georgia Tech's Ross Steelman, only one shot behind the leader, Fred Biondi from Florida. Story 6: HOF

The Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is scheduled to take place on July 21. LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey will be the keynote speaker, following her team's recent NCAA championship win. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, supporting educational programs and scholarships. The ceremony will also include the induction of six new Hall of Famers, including NFL player Jared Cook, softball player Rhea Taylor, runner Amanda Winslow Rego, swimmer Brock Newman, former football coach Cecil Flowe, and sports editor Will Hammock. This marks the first induction ceremony since 2019, and the community is excited for the event.
