STORY 2: hit n run

Gwinnett County police have identified the victim of a hit-and-run as 36-year-old Shantta Monette from Norcross. The incident occurred on Buford Drive in Lawrenceville last week. Monette was walking north on Buford Drive when she was hit by a vehicle, and the driver fled the scene. Investigators believe she may have been walking with two other people using cellphones as flashlights. Police are seeking information from anyone who was in the area between 9:27 p.m. and 9:36 p.m. and are asking drivers with dash cameras to share their footage. Tips can be reported to detectives or Crime Stoppers for a cash reward.

Story 3: armed

Three defendants involved in armed drug trafficking investigations in the Athens community were sentenced to federal prison. Stacey Collins received 240 months for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, Juan Carlos Pimentel received 168 months for conspiracy to distribute heroin, and Steven Ricole Scott received 120 months for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. The sentencing aims to hold armed drug traffickers accountable and combat violent crime associated with drug trafficking. The winning proposal, created by Dr. Neville Forlemu and Dr. Boyko Gyurov, aims to reach two goals: expand GGC's learning abroad program to other continents and increase participation from minority students, particularly African American males. The grant will be used to build relationships with programs in Cameroon, expanding the opportunity to more students. The IDEAS Program supports diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in engaging Americans in foreign policy and has awarded grants to various U.S. colleges and universities to diversify study abroad programs worldwide.
