Story 1. fire

Firefighters in Gwinnett County rescued four individuals from an apartment fire at the Elliott Apartments in Norcross. The fire was reported in a two/three split-story apartment building. Upon arrival, firefighters found fire in the second and third-story units as well as in the attic space. Two adults and one child were trapped on the second floor, but were successfully rescued through a window with the help of a ladder. All occupants of the main apartment units were evacuated, and the fire was eventually controlled. Heavy fire damage was found in three units, and approximately 20 occupants were displaced. One person was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and assistance is being provided to those affected by the Red Cross and apartment management.…..read more on this at gwinnettdailypost.com

STORY 2: claimed

Imani Fantroyal, a woman from Loganville, Georgia, is facing insurance fraud charges for allegedly filing false claims with her insurance company. She claimed that power outages in April and August 2021 had ruined her food and electronics. However, investigations revealed that there were no power irregularities during the stated dates, and the pictures she submitted as evidence were taken outside of the claimed losses. Fantroyal admitted to using pictures from other residences to support her claims. The insurance company had paid her over $1,300 for the fraudulent claims. Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced the charges back on June 30th.

Story 3: remains

The Duluth Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying a woman whose remains were found on Abbotts Bridge Road on June 2. Despite efforts by the police, her identity remains unknown. She is described as a Black woman, approximately 5 feet 1 inch to 5 feet 5 inches tall, and believed to be in her mid-20s to mid-30s. The woman had multiple body piercings and an unidentified tattoo on her back. The circumstances surrounding her death are unclear, and it is yet to be determined whether charges will be filed. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Duluth Police Department.

Story 4: kitten

Gwinnett County has reported a third case of rabies in cats within a month. This time, a Lawrenceville kitten tested positive for rabies after biting its owners and veterinary staff on June 28. The previous cases involved a cat in Dacula and another in Sugar Hill. The county advises residents to be cautious and avoid animals exhibiting unusual behavior. It is important for pet owners to ensure their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Symptoms of rabies in humans include fever, headache, weakness, and discomfort. Immediate preventive treatment is necessary if someone is bitten or scratched by a suspected rabid animal.

Story 5: ms georgia

Tara Schiphof, a 25-year-old resident of Sugar Hill, fulfilled her dream of becoming Miss Georgia by winning the Miss Georgia competition recently. With this achievement, Schiphof is one step closer to her long-held dream of becoming Miss America. She expressed confidence in the new leadership of the Miss America Organization, believing they will make it an extraordinary experience. Having been the first runner-up in the 2022 Miss Georgia competition, Schiphof felt a sense of reflection and accomplishment as she was announced the winner. She dedicated her talent presentation, a lyrical dance, to her late grandmother. Schiphof hopes her journey inspires other women to pursue their dreams.

Story 6: houck

Colin Houck, the shortstop from Parkview High School, is expected to be an early pick in Sunday's Major League Baseball Draft. Houck is ranked 12th overall and is projected to be selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks. This would mark the second consecutive year that Gwinnett County produces a first-round pick. Houck could become the highest-drafted player in Parkview's history, surpassing Jeff Francoeur's 23rd overall selection in 2002. As a senior, Houck received numerous accolades and had an impressive high school career. The MLB Draft will continue over three days, with the Atlanta Braves picking 24th in the first round.

Story 7: boyd

David Boyd, former Berkmar boys basketball coach, has released a memoir titled "The Life and Times of Hall of Fame Coach David Boyd." Initially hesitant about writing a book, Boyd's daughter convinced him to share his experiences as a teacher, coach, and father. The book includes stories about his family and career, including his time at Berkmar High School where he won state basketball titles. Proceeds from book sales will support the boys basketball program at Brunswick High School. The memoir received positive feedback for its detailed storytelling and memory. Boyd contemplates the possibility of writing another book in the future.
