STORY 1: removed

The Georgia Supreme Court has unanimously removed Judge Christian Coomer from the state Court of Appeals due to his misuse of campaign funds and dealings with a client prior to becoming a judge, which were found to undermine public confidence in his integrity. Coomer, a Republican and former state legislator, was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2018 and later elected to a full term. STORY 2: filed

James Colby Ray, a Lindale man, is facing additional charges for auto theft and entering multiple autos, along with previous charges related to fleeing police. Ray was arrested after attempting to evade a traffic stop, driving recklessly on train tracks, running red lights, and eventually fleeing on foot. Methamphetamine and scales were found on him. He now faces charges related to entering five vehicles on July 19, stealing items worth over $1,500, including flashlights and money. He's also charged with stealing a Dodge Ram pickup, tools, and credit cards on July 20, and stealing a 2008 Range Rover on July 23. Ray is currently in jail without bond.

STORY 3: killed

A crash on Interstate 75 in Gordon County involving two tractor trailers and a 2016 Kia Sorento, resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m Thursday. on I-75 Southbound near mile marker 308. Troopers from Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that a tractor trailer hauling a lift was on the shoulder of the road due to a mechanical issue. The Kia Sorento was acting as a pilot car and waiting behind the tractor trailer. When both vehicles re-entered the road, a second tractor trailer struck the Kia Sorento from behind, causing a collision with the first tractor trailer. The second tractor trailer overturned down an embankment. The driver of the second tractor trailer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The State Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident.

Story 8:  open

The Gordon Central High School football team, led by new head coach Lenny Gregory, is entering a new era with hopes of a turnaround. Despite having a young team with a small senior class of eight players, the Warriors are looking to make strides in the upcoming season. In their opening game against Armuchee, they aim to put their preseason scrimmage struggles behind them, where they faced challenges generating offense and dealt with interceptions. Defensively, the team showed progress by making plays and allowing only two touchdowns during the scrimmage. They are focused on improvement and growth as they kick off the regular season. Gordon Central enters 2023 on the heels of a 22 game losing streak.

Story 9:  1st 3

The Calhoun High School softball team has kicked off its season with a strong start, winning their first three games and making an impact in Region 7-5A. Despite having their games rained out over the weekend, the team won against Woodland with a 7-4 victory in their league opener. In a non-league contest, they secured a thrilling 8-7 walk-off win over Northwest Whitfield, thanks to a two-run homer by senior first baseman Elizabeth Wilkey. The team's offense has been performing well, and they are aiming to continue their winning streak in upcoming games, including a matchup against Cartersville. The Lady Jackets are making their mark in the region standings with their early successes.
