STORY 2: Bordeau metals
Bordeau Metals, a metal recycling company, has filed a lawsuit seeking $28 million in damages against Floyd County, Georgia. The lawsuit alleges that representatives of Floyd County pressured Georgia Power, which led to the termination of Bordeau's metal recycling contract as part of the decommissioning at Georgia Power’s Plant Hammond. Bordeau claims that the cancellation of the contract cost them over $28 million, including approximately $20 million in expected revenue from processing and reselling 50,000 tons of scrap metal from Plant Hammond. The company also claims $6 million for equipment costs and $1.5 million for property preparation. The lawsuit alleges interference with Bordeau's contractual relationship with Brandenburg Service Company, which prematurely terminated its subcontract with Bordeau.
STORY 3: pair arrested on drug charges
Two men, Dakota Storm Pruitt (32) and Derek Ryan Hooper (27), were arrested on Hwy. 411. Both are charged with felony possession of oxycontin and vyvanse, along with misdemeanor charges of drugs out of their original containers. Hooper faces an additional misdemeanor for providing a false name and date of birth. He is held in jail without bond, while Pruitt faces additional misdemeanor charges for driving with a suspended license and failure to display a license plate.

Story 7: Water & Sewage
The City of Rome is addressing the need for sewer service along the U.S. 411 corridor due to anticipated growth. The Rome Water and Sewer Committee received updates on two properties seeking access to city sewer: one near Tractor Supply and another for a new car wash. Property owners are responsible for the connection costs, estimated at over a million dollars and around $500,000, respectively. The discussion also touched on extending sewer service to the Chulio Hills neighborhood, where residents have sought this service for decades. The estimated project cost, accounting for construction, tap fees, plumbing, and monthly bills, could range from $5 million to $6 million. The committee is considering involving Chulio Hills homeowners in future discussions. Additionally, a sewer expansion project for Enterprise Corner along U.S. 411 aims to attract businesses to the area.
