STORY 1: Federal Judge Orders Ringgold Alternative Therapy Doctor To Pay $27 Million For Filing False Medicare Claims
A federal judge has ordered Dr. Charles Adams, an alternative therapy doctor in Ringgold, to pay $27 million for submitting over 4,000 false Medicare claims. A jury found him in violation of the False Claims Act for submitting false claims for chelation therapy reimbursements, which is a therapy used to remove heavy metals from the body. Despite patients not having lead poisoning, Adams claimed they suffered from heavy metal poisoning to obtain Medicare reimbursement. Adams administered a drug, edetate calcium disodium, for various conditions, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration only recognizes as a treatment for lead poisoning..........…….Get more info at northwestgeorgianews.com
STORY 2: Task Force Bust Charges Two with Trafficking Meth and Heroin
Two individuals, Matthew James Johnson and Heaven Lee Dawn Hood, were arrested on Redmond Circle Road in Rome and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and heroin. During their arrest, police discovered 28 grams of meth and 4 grams of heroin, along with digital scales and handguns. They were also found in possession of firearms and charged with felony possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes. Additionally, Hood was charged with felony possession of psilocybin mushrooms with intent to distribute and klonopin.
STORY 3: Regional County Commission Meeting To Be Held in Rome
The Association County Commissioners of Georgia is hosting a fall regional meeting in Rome on October 30. County government leaders from around the region will gather to discuss and hear updates on various issues affecting local operations. Topics on the agenda include the rise in insurance premiums for local governments, recruitment and retention challenges for critical county jobs, housing access and affordability, and tax policy issues impacting property and sales tax revenues. The ACCG policy team will also present the 2024 ACCG Legislative Agenda and Priorities. Similar meetings are being held across the state, and the event aims to provide networking opportunities for county officials.

STORY 4: LaFayette, Chickamauga City Elections and TSPLOST: Here's the Schedule for Early Voting
Early voting for city elections and a TSPLOST election in Walker County begins on October 16 and will continue through November 3. LaFayette residents will vote for at-large seats and Ward 4 candidates, with an uncontested race in Ward 3. Chickamauga residents will choose between mayoral candidates and at-large seats. All county voters can cast a ballot on the TSPLOST issue, which seeks to impose a one percent sales tax for transportation purposes for up to five years, raising an estimated $45,000,000. Voting locations and schedules are specified, and registered voters can participate in the TSPLOST vote during the elections. For voting locations visit northwest Georgia news dot com.
STORY 5: Georgia Northwestern Technical College to host Open House events on all six campuses
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is hosting an Open House on October 26th across all six of its campuses. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following campuses: Catoosa County, Floyd County, Gordon County, Polk County, Walker County, and Whitfield Murray. The Open House provides an opportunity for attendees to learn about the programs offered, tour the facilities, and meet faculty and staff. GNTC will also waive the admission application fee for those attending, and attendees will receive GNTC giveaways.

STORY 7: First Arrest Made in Floyd County Prison Meth Drop Interception
Levon Evelyn Ward, aged 71 and a resident of Aragon, has been arrested and charged with providing prohibited items to inmates at the Floyd County Prison. Ward allegedly collaborated with Damien Jamal Harris to obtain and deliver methamphetamine, marijuana, and tobacco to a location off Minshew Mountain Road on July 9. Cell phone records indicate Harris traveled to Atlanta, Dallas, and then Aragon to meet Ward and relay the package. The intercepted package contained 25.75 grams of meth, 106.8 grams of marijuana, and three pounds of tobacco intended to be smuggled into the prison. Charges are pending for other individuals involved.
STORY 8: Family Crisis Center hosts Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
The Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center's "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event took place in downtown City Park, drawing supporters to raise awareness of domestic violence issues facing women. Participants, including Dorian Johnson, donned colorful heels and showcased showmanship. The event serves to honor survivors and remember those who lost their lives to domestic violence, according to NWGAFCC Director Beth Peters, making it a special and important occasion.
