STORY 4: housing
The Rome City Commission unanimously approved funding for a two-year rapid rehousing pilot program aimed at assisting individuals transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing. The program, a partnership between Northwest Georgia Housing Authority and United Way of Rome and Floyd County, intends to move shelter graduates to sustainable housing through financial and social counseling. The city will provide around $710,000 for the program from American Rescue Plan Act funds. If successful, the collaboration will seek federal grants and corporate sponsorships for ongoing support. While Floyd County has not yet committed, Commissioner Bill Collins emphasized the city's greater homeless population and advocated for the funding. Additionally, the commission approved $400,000 for an ECO Center renovation project and emphasized unity after a recent contentious meeting.
STORY 5: name

STORY 6: gulf
The Shorter Hawks football program is gearing up for the upcoming seasons with a focus on their final year in the Gulf South Conference. Despite back-to-back 3-8 seasons in 2021 and 2022, the Hawks have shown progress with a strong offense and defense. The team is driven to capitalize on their potential, with a deep and talented backfield and experienced linemen leading the way. The Hawks aim to finish their time in the Gulf South Conference on a high note before embarking on their new journey in the coming years.
