STORY 1: Coosa Valley Fair means fall is here; fair runs Tuesday through Saturday
The Coosa Valley Fair has returned, marking the arrival of fall at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds. The fair offers carnival rides, petting zoos, livestock shows, and a popular fall flower show. A highlight this year is "Jurassic Kingdom," featuring interactive dinosaur experiences. The "Heatin’ up for the State" livestock show has been scheduled before the fair, giving participants more time before the Georgia National Livestock shows. The fair also features a new Space Adventures Thrill Show focused on STEM education. Wade Shows provides professional rides. The fair runs from Tuesday to Saturday, offering various admission and ride pricing options. STORY 2: Calhoun Boys and Girls Club receives $50,000 grant from T-Mobile
The local Boys and Girls Club received a $50,000 grant as part of T-Mobile's Hometown Grants initiative. The grant is intended to upgrade a cyber café at the club and provide tablets, chargers, and smart TVs. T-Mobile's Hometown Grants initiative, launched in 2021, aims to invest $25 million in 500 rural towns over five years. To apply, towns with populations under 50,000 must submit proposals detailing plans, budgets, timelines, anticipated impact, and support letters. The grant reflects the impact of former club members who are now successful professionals, demonstrating the club's positive community influence.
STORY 3: Vigil held in honor of Rockmart High School junior
A prayer vigil was held at Rockmart High School to remember Braydon Ellis, a junior student who tragically passed away. Over 200 people, including students, faculty, family, and friends, attended the event. The vigil featured a speech by Pastor Jason Odom, emphasizing the importance of community support in times of grief. Braydon Ellis, 16, was a resident of Taylorsville and an active member of his community, known for his love of the outdoors and involvement in local organizations. A donation account has been set up to help cover funeral expenses, and services were scheduled at First Baptist Church of Rockmart.

STORY 4: Ringgold woman turns 107 years old
Margaret Watson Atkinson Pentecost was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1916, during World War I. In 1924, she and her family immigrated to the U.S. landing at Ellis Island, New York, and settled in California. They faced the challenges of the Great Depression with faith and generosity. Margaret's life took an unexpected turn when she went to help in a Mexican orphanage, where she met and married Edward Pentecost. The couple served as missionaries in Mexico for over 24 years and later in Brazil. After retirement, they settled in various parts of the U.S. Margaret, now 107, enjoys a rich family life and remains grateful for her blessings and faith.
STORY 5: Calhoun City Schools’ Class of 2023 outperforms state and national scores on SAT
Calhoun City Schools has achieved a mean SAT score of 1047, ranking 45th out of 181 school systems in the state for the fiscal year ‘23. This score surpasses both state and national public-school averages. Approximately 34% of the 2023 senior class took the SAT, reflecting a commitment to academic success. The superintendent, Dr. Michele Taylor, expressed pride in the Class of 2023 and their pursuit of excellence, anticipating their future achievements. The SAT assesses critical reading and mathematics abilities, with a possible total score of 1600.
