STORY 1: sneaky
"Operation Sneaky Peach," a statewide child exploitation operation, led to the arrest of 26 individuals, including two from Bartow County, Georgia. The operation, conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit in collaboration with the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, aimed to identify and apprehend individuals involved in technology-facilitated crimes against children. Among those arrested, Carl Ryan Hill (42) from Cartersville and Damian Shaw Wright (22) from Acworth face multiple felony counts of sexual exploitation of children. The operation involved three months of planning and covered proactive investigations targeting peer-to-peer network users sharing child pornography and reactive investigations based on tips received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children..........…….get more info at northwestgeorgianews.com
STORY 2: struggles
Rome is struggling to find a new location for a new Rome Police Department (RPD) headquarters, with a year-end deadline approaching. As part of local option sales tax negotiations, RPD, Rome Municipal Court, and Floyd County Police were supposed to vacate their joint law enforcement center downtown, freeing up space for county offices and courtrooms. The original deadline for this move is at the end of the year. City Manager Sammy Rich is searching throughout the city for a suitable location to accommodate the police and municipal court, at least temporarily. If a suitable location isn't found, the city may need to borrow funds for relocation.
STORY 3: vote
The Floyd County Elections Board is considering moving the locations of three voting sites, including Town Rome, East Rome, and Fosters Mills, ahead of the November election. The Town Rome voting site may be relocated to the Rome-Floyd County Library due to state requirements that precincts have justifications to share locations. East Rome is proposed to move to Hollywood Baptist Church, with plans to find a more permanent location after the 2023 election. The Fosters Mill location is set to move to Cedar Creek Baptist Church due to the poor condition of the current building. The board will make a final decision on these changes at a meeting scheduled for September.

STORY 4 grant
The Rome school system is partnering with the nonprofit organization Vision to Learn to conduct vision tests for most of its elementary school students and provide glasses to those in need. The program is made possible through a $125,000 grant, allowing in-school vision screenings for approximately 3,400 students from pre-K through sixth grade, along with free glasses for pre-K through third graders. Vision problems can affect a child's learning and behavior, and the school system aims to identify and address these issues to enhance students' educational experiences. The program has become more critical due to the impact of COVID-19 and increased screen time for students.
STORY 5: switch
A $772 million data center known as the "Switch KEEP 2.0 Atlanta North Campus" is planned for southern Bartow County near LakePoint. The data center will be part of a larger complex in Douglas County, with a total investment in Bartow nearing $8.5 billion. The facility will span 126 acres and house an extensive number of computers providing backend support to internet services. The initial phase is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026, with a total buildout projected for 2046. The annual tax contributions from the project are estimated at $15 million.
STORY 6: hit
Ralph "Ryan" Dover III, from Aragon, has been sentenced to five years in prison for felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death and misdemeanor reckless conduct. He struck a bicyclist, Eric Keais, along a Cedartown road in 2019 and failed to contact police or first responders, leading to Keais' death. Dover's failure to report the incident immediately delayed Keais receiving medical care. He drove to a convenience store and called a friend instead of notifying authorities. The judge sentenced Dover to the maximum allowed for the felony, with the sentence merged with the misdemeanor count. Dover's actions directly contributed to Keais' death, and Keais' family expressed their loss in court.

Story 7: pistol
Charles Shane Little, a 39-year-old Summerville man, was arrested and faces charges related to attempting to sell a stolen .22 caliber revolver in April. He has been charged with felony theft by receiving and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Little was in Floyd County Jail as of Thursday morning, and he remained without bond.
Story 8: bulldogs
Georgia enters the 2023 season as the back-to-back defending national champions, boasting an impressive record. However, some uncertainties have cropped up in the lead-up to the season opener against Tennessee-Martin. The Associated Press poll has ranked Georgia at No. 1, but there's a sense of panic among fans. Kirby Smart has named Carson Beck as the starting quarterback, even though he hasn't started a game in nearly four years. Adding to the uncertainty is the return of Mike Bobo as the offensive coordinator, replacing Todd Monken, who left for the NFL. Fans are eager to see what direction the offense will take under Bobo and with a new quarterback. Additionally, injuries have hit the running back position, with Kendall Milton dealing with a hamstring injury and Branson Robinson rupturing his patellar tendon. Daijun Edwards is also nursing a knee injury. These uncertainties have left Georgia fans wondering how the team will perform in the upcoming season.
